Hull and East Riding Green Party, Deputy Coordinator, Julia Brown, said :
“The local Green Party is on the side of the people on Holderness opposing the dumping of nuclear waste in the area. It is totally unwanted. We don’t need a referendum to judge the scale of opposition. A referendum is a red herring.
“But if you want you nuclear power then the waste needs to go somewhere. The local MP and Climate Change Minister supports nuclear power - so where does he want the waste to go? The Green Party wants the phasing out of nuclear power.
Deputy Coordinator, Julia Brown, continued:
“Nuclear energy is an expensive distraction at a time when we face the dual challenges of spiralling energy costs and concerns over energy security.
“Our focus needs to be on developing renewable energy technologies and a big push on energy efficiency. Both are cleaner and cheaper solutions that can be delivered far quicker than nuclear ever can.”
