In April, the H&ERGP issued the following press release:

At a meeting in Beverley yesterday, the Hull and East Riding Green Party reiterated their concerns at plans to cut local radio services.

Local Green Party coordinator, Julia Brown, said:

“At a time when national politics dominates, it is vital that people in this part of Yorkshire are able to hear and engage with stories happening in their local area.

“Local radio has a huge role to play in holding people in power to account too. That job is increasingly more important and was one the ‘Burnsy Show’ had a big part in locally.

“We appreciate that, with a cost of living crisis, budgets can be tight but, of the total license fee, just £7.60 is spent on local radio. That’s 19 pence per year per station – not only are the public benefits clear but the economic arguments are strong too.

“With devolution to Hull and East Yorkshire hopefully just round the corner, it is vital local people are able to reach out to those involved to make sure their voices are heard.”
