As a teacher of over 25 years experience in Hull and the area, I am dismayed at the continued underfunding of schools and the stresses on the teaching profession, says Martin Deane, a teacher and Green Party candiate for Hull North.
A severe funding crisis in Hull schools is planned and we in the Green Party absolutely reject it.
Tory Government education cuts are set to cost schools in Hull North ALONE an estimated £5,246,625 by 2020.
The 6 secondary schools and 24 primary schools of Hull North will have near £6m education cuts by 2020 under current Tory government plans. (1)
100% of state-funded Hull North schools will be affected.
Greens will stop education cuts in Hull.
Greens pledge nationally to plug the entire £7 billion funding gap facing education due to Tory cuts.
Teachers are already under immense pressures coping with the weekly workload, let alone the further stresses that deliberate underfunding will cause.
Cuts have already seen £2.2 bn taken out of education nationally, and the next £3bn cuts will be the biggest real terms fall in spending per pupil for 30 years.
The average primary school will lose over £98,000 (slightly below the national average of £103,000), and the average secondary school will lose £503,000 (well above the national average of £470,000).
As schools get fewer resources, more is being asked of teachers and pupils. But how are schools meant to prepare children for life, when our schools suffer more funding cuts?
The world's 6th richest economy must value its future. Greens will scrap tuition fees and restore Educational Maintenance Grants for poorer students.
