Hull and East Riding Green Party welcomes the Football Association decision to reject the name change.
Mike Lammiman, speaking for the Greens on culture, media and sport, said:
"This is a common sense response by the FA to a proposal that showed no respect for either the supporters or the heritage of this historic football club.
"To see the change rejected so overwelmingly sends a clear message to other owners that a name change requires the backing of the supporters and the community and should not be driven by personal differences with the local council. “
The Green Party believes that football clubs are important parts of the community and their owners should work closely with Supporters Trusts where they exist in order to ensure that communities are engaged with and their opinions are heard.
“It is unfortunate that the club's owners chose to pursue their aim with such serious disregard for the supporters.
“Their aims had no basis in football and we ask the Allams to take the result in good faith and move on."
