Hull North Green Party candidate martin Deane replies to Hull Student questions.

The Questions, chosen by University of Hull Students’ Union, were as follows:

1. What does a new deal for the next generation look like?

A society that helps with study, with jobs, with housing, fairness, peace. The future’s an invitation. #Green #Hull @NUSUK #GenerationVote

 

2. Do you think tuition fees should be reduced or abolished altogether?

Greens say: abolish fees. £5bn a year. Or what Sky-BT just paid for Premier TV football! Restore grants now. #Hull #GenerationVote


3. The NHS is under threat – how will you help?

Green pledge: protect NHS, keep it public. Bin internal market costing £10 billion a year. Stop TTIP! #Hull @NUSUK #generationvote

 

4. What can you do to tackle youth unemployment?

Greens aim to inspire economy. Pledge a million jobs in energy saving, renewables, caring. No to workfare jobs. #Hull @NUSUK #Generationvote

 

5. What is your role in good community/campus relations?

Greens want stronger community. Locals valuing what students bring. Students respect locality they live in. #Hull @NUSUK #GenerationVote

 

6. What are your views on the Counter Terrorism Bill?

Criminalising ideas, people. Threatens free movement. Backward step, wrong agenda. A closing of society. #Hull #HUU #GenerationVote

UK has a major responsibility for inspiring terrorism by illegal wars. Peace works both ways. So does war. #Hull #HUU @NUSUK #GenerationVote


7. With an increase of Hull Uni students getting food parcels- what causes youth poverty in Hull & how do we fix it?

No to food poverty. End austerity with jobs worth having - and benefits that work not punish. #BasicIncome #HUU @NUSUK #GenerationVote

 

8. Why are young people and students apathetic towards our current democracy, & what can we do to fix it?

Disillusioned with politics-as-usual? Join something different. Push for a society worth having. #Hull @NUSUK #GenerationVote

 

9. What do you want Hull winning City of Culture to mean for the residents of Hull, particularly students?


Empowerment re challenges. More cosmopolitan, global feel to the city. Respect and promote arts. #HUU @2017Hull @NUSUK #GenerationVote

 

10. What do you see as the main issue for student resident/permanent resident relations, and how do we fix that?

The daily grind takes its toll on all. Hull people tackle by: We really are all in it together. Solidarity. #Hull @NUSUK #GenerationVote
